Time

I shopped the Super Sale and focused on one thing - Time.  While I couldn't find a magic wand to grant me more time to get things done in my day (hah hah), I did find some awesome units on Teacher's Notebook!  I thought I'd share them with you, as well as my Time unit I finally completed {here} on Google Drive.

My favorite, that inspired me the most:

*This had a GREAT clock craftivity, as well as an AM/PM Sort, student schedule of the day, etc.  Definitely go check it out if you need some resources on time, or if you just want to revamp what you're doing! :)

Next was the "time cubes" - too cute - from Nylas Crafty Teaching!  I love that not only were these ideas reasonably priced, they basically wrote my unit for me (once I finally decided the order of things!):

Getting a Little Wet and a Sale!

Okay, feeling like my last post was a bit of a downer...thanks to those of you who commented!  Wanted to announce that I'm having a sale over at my Teacher's Notebook store!  50% off all items in celebration of 6 1/2 days left of the school year!  

While I'll miss most of my kiddos, I'm ready for a little break.  I don't know about you, but I spend at least one weekend day each week back at school, planning for the next week.  I cannot work at home, so it's a nice quiet atmosphere where I can focus and take advantage of high speed Internet! :)

So, it'll be nice to relax and be a stay-at-home Mom....well, until the bug hits again in July, and I'm back, setting up my room!  Fortunately, my kids are VERY understanding and actually enjoy going back with me and playing!

We have 4 days this week, then 2 1/2 the following week (but one day is Field Day), so I decided I'd do a bit of an Ocean theme.  I have a 30 day trial at Netflix I'm taking advantage of, so we're going to watch the "Coral Reef" IMAX and the "Dolphin" IMAX.  Then, we're creating Anchor Charts on each topic and creating murals! 

 

We still have two end of the year tests to go, so we're reviewing for Math.  On Friday, I had my kids use the scraps we've collected this year with construction paper to create "Fraction Monsters."  On Monday, we'll look at colors and shapes and create fractional problems for each one.  At this point, not sure what we're doing the rest of the week to review (Scoot?  Games?  More craft projects?), but it's something that will have to keep the kids engaged!  Their attention is GONE, so I'm trying to make everything seem more like a game or project.  

To go along with the ocean theme during Reading, I found some GREAT resources on TpT and TN to use, as well as creating some of my own.  So far, I created a word search from Worksheet Genius using ocean-themed words.  My kids are CRAZY for word searches, so that will keep them busy while I'm testing small groups for reading.  Also, I created an ABC order using an ocean theme.  It's available at the stores for $1.00 (psst....on TN, it's only 50 cents!).  Click on the image to check it out!

 Well, back to work...I've already had my husband calling, asking when I was coming home.  (He thinks the end of the year includes packing up and testing...what do I have left to plan, he asks?).  Sigh. 

Would you like to try a Prefix? How about a Suffix?

I must admit, I've been enjoying teaching this to my kids this year!  It's always good when you can make something boring fun!  :)  Besides creating "unmuffins" and matching aliens to their spaceships (from an earlier post, available on my Teacher's Notebook and TpT stores) which the kids LOVED, we created an anchor chart 

and "springed" up our grammar tree outside the room.

 The students were given the center of the flower with a prefix or suffix and a template for flower petals.  They then had to use words (written on the petal) that used the prefix or suffix (I made my kids do one of each).  I'm adding the extras to our literacy centers so we can fill up the bush a bit more! :)


 I hadn't anticipated adding a bush, but I really didn't want to take my rainbow down from St. Pat's Day and it couldn't just end mid-wall.  That, and I had requests from a PreK teacher and the PT across the hall (who has her kids park the trike at the rainbow or at the tree) to not remove it!  I very heartily agreed!  It does add a nice splash of color to the hallway! :) 


I also add magnetic alphabet letters to my whiteboard to use during our unit.  It helps the kids remember what each one means when we add it to a word.  

I did the same with the suffixes on the right side of the board.  The students had fun writing words on the board and moving the letters to make new words!

Next week, we'll end our unit with a Grammar Adventure and a game of Scoot before our assessment.  (I wanted to add pics here, but long story short...the links take you to my TN store, where they are CHEAP through April 30th!).
